Pronto Sports Recall Ice Skates: Lead Paints Standard Violated

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission seeks to help consumers by identifying those products that contain components, whose excess levels pose a health risk to the users. In this case, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has identified excess levels of lead in the DBX Glide Boys Ice Skates. Therefore, in cooperation with Pronto Sports Inc, the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of this consumer product. Those consumers who have bought this product must discontinue its use immediately, unless there are instructions to the contrary.

Description of the Product

The DBX Glide Boys Ice Skates that have been recalled are adjustable boy’s ice skates. The color scheme available for these ice skates is black with silver and lime green accents. A rubber tag can be found on the side of the skates, with the word “Glide” printed on it. One can find the letters “DBX” and the “DBX” logo on the heel, power-strap, tongue, and ankle of the DBX Glide Boys Ice Skates. It is the color that is used in the product that is the problem.

Hazardous Ice Skates

As aforementioned, the DBX Glide Boys Ice Skates have been painted in various hues. The surface paint that has been used on the ice skates for this purpose contains high levels of lead. These levels of lead are far above the federally acceptable levels of lead in a product. What this means is that the DBX Glide Boys Ice Skates are unsafe for use. You could suffer from the adverse affects of lead poisoning. This is not a very overt process and there are no visible symptoms. However, if you intake/inhale large levels of lead regularly, there are various serious symptoms that manifest themselves.

Availability of the Ice Skates

These ice skates have been manufactured in China and have been distributed by Pronto Sports Inc of Anoka, Minn. Between September 2008 and December 2008, the DBX Glide Boys Ice Skates were available at all nationwide Dick’s Sporting Goods. The fact that they were available at all nationwide Dick’s Sporting Goods meant that there were quite a few takers.

Remedial Measures

On account of the high level of lead found in the surface paint used in DBX Glide Boys Ice Skates, this product has been recalled from the market. So far around 600 units have been recalled. Moreover, if you are a consumer of this product then it’s of paramount importance that you take away the DBC Glide Boy Ice Skates from your children. Prolonged use of this recalled product could cause health related problems for the users. You must contact Pronto Sports in order to get a full refund on this particular product.
