Paint Brushes Recalled by Discount School Supply – Violate Lead Paint Standard

The purpose of the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission is to protect the consumers from the associated risks of using products that might contain toxic materials that will be detrimental to the health of a person. In accordance with this fact the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of Shaving Paint Brushes imported by Discount School Supply. This announcement for recall is in full cooperation with the Importer of the product. Consumers who have purchased this product should discontinue the use of this product immediately, unless otherwise instructed.

Description of the Paint Brushes

The Shaving Paint Brushes that have been recalled by Discount School Supply are essentially a pack of six “shaving-style” brushes. The length of each brush is around 4 inches. The color scheme available for the handle of these brushes is purple, yellow, and pink, lime green, orange, and blue. You can identify the recalled ‘Shaving Paint Brushes’ by checking out its packaging, whereon, the item number is printed. Those ‘Shaving Paint Brushes’ with handles that are either colored green, dark blue, black, or brown are not a part of the ‘Saving Paint Brushes’ that have been recalled. Those brushes that were recalled were also a part of various kits including Colorations® Foam Paint Starter Kit and BioColor® Foam Paint Starter Kit.

Hazardous Paint Brushes

We have earlier mentioned that the handles of these Shaving Paint Brushes have been painted with a specific color. It is this paint that has been applied to the handles, that has excessive levels of lead. These levels are well above the federal lead paint standard designated for the same. Hence, this increases the threat of lead affecting the health of the user. Therefore, this product is being recalled.

Availability of the Product

The product has been manufactured in China and has been imported by Discount School Supply based out of Monterey, California. Between May 2004 and August 2007, ‘Shaving Paint Brushes’ were available through the website of the firm and also by way of the Discount School Supply’s Catalog for around $5. The firm also sold the BioColor® kit between May 2004 and June 2006 and it was priced at around $60. Between July 2006 and August 2007 the firm sold the Colorations® kit for around $60.

Remedial Measures

Around 20,000 units of the ‘Shaving Paint Brushes’ have been recalled by the firm. So far, no incidents or injuries have occurred as a result of the use of these paint brushes. It is advisable that those consumers who have purchased the product should discontinue the use of the brushes and also contact the Discount School of Supply. You will be sent a free replacement brush set.
