High School Musical Manicure Kit Pouch by Fantas-Eyes

Fantas-Eyes of New York, NY in cooperation with the United States Consumer Products Safety Commission has recalled the pouch that holds the High School Musical Manicure Kit because of the excess levels of lead that occur in the glitter lettering on the outside of the pouch. The Consumer Products Safety Commission has the responsibility of defining and enforcing the standards for product safety. The Commission has determined that the product in question exceeds the maximum levels of lead in the decorative glitter used on the product. It is known that ingestion of lead by youngsters can be hazardous to their growth and development.

Product Description

The High School Musical Manicure Kit consists of manicure tools and products contained in a 7.5″ x 4.75″ clear plastic pouch. The pouch is see through and is secured with a pink zipper. The lettering on the pouch is yellow gold with glitter and says “High School Musical” one one side of the pouch. On the opposite side of the pouch are the word ‘Sharpay’ in dark red appears. The pouch contains a nail file, cuticle stick, nail brush, nail clippers, nail decals, toe separators and nail polish. The youngster can use these implements to do a complete nail care program. The product is manufactured in China.

Hazardous Kits

The implements contained in the see through plastic pouch are not the reason for the recall. The high lead levels on the product are found in the lettering ‘High School Musical” on the front of the pouch. The paint and glitter on the pouch lettering contain levels of lead that is higher than that allowed under health and safety regulations defined by the CSPC. Approximately 15,000 units are affected by the voluntary recall. The typical price was about $11. it is important to recognize the harmful nature of lead poisoning and take steps to avoid the danger to your children.

Availability of the Manicure Sets

The manicure set was sold by ABC Distributing and LTD Commodities web sites and catalogs. You can also find the product on the web site at www.lakeside.com. The High School Musical Manicure Set was imported by Fantas-Eyes, a New York business. The product was sold during the period between September and November 2008. The product tie to the teen movie of the same name helped to increase the popularity of the manicure sets, but it is also helpful to encourage teens and pre teens to form good nail care habits.

Remedial Actions

The date of the recall is late January, 2009. If you are one of the consumers that purchased the product during this period, you should immediately remove it from the child and contact the importer.
