Coyne’s & Company Recall Halloween Figurines – Lead Hazard Detected

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission seeks to ensure the safety of the products used by consumers. If a product is identified to be hazardous to the health of the consumer then the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announces the recall of that specific product in cooperation with the firm/company that is importing/distributing/manufacturing the product. Once the recall has been announced, consumers are requested to stop using the recalled products, which in this case are Halloween figures, unless otherwise instructed by the company.

Description of the Figurines

These figurines are known as Casper the Friendly Ghost ® mini-figurines. They stand 3 inches tall and are made of resin and paper. When they were available, they were sold in mini bags that were embellished with a design of spider and web. The figurines are dressed in a variety of characters including Devil in a purple spider bag, Skeleton in a green spider bag, and Dracula in a red spider bag. Also available were Wendy the Witch ® in a yellow spider bag, Mummy in an orange spider bag, and Casper ® in a blue spider bag. You can identify the recalled product from their stamp which mentions TM & ©Harvey Entertainment “Coyne’s & Company”. A model number, CP 1030 is printed on a white sticker at the bottom of the bag.

Hazardous Halloween Figurines

These brightly colored Coyne’s and Company Halloween figurines are quite attractive. However, in their attractiveness lies a hazard. The paint that is used to color these figurines contains a high level of lead. Hence, they have been recalled. Lead, as a toxic substance could essentially be called the silent “killer”. Silent, with regards to the fact that there are no obvious symptoms that one could associate with lead poisoning. It affects the development of the brain, especially in children and leads to various serious ailments.

However, if lead is inhaled or taken in a large amount then a person could suffer from severe symptoms. If a product that you or your child is using has excessive lead content than you must stop using it immediately.

Availability of the Product

This product is manufactured in China and Coyne’s & Company Inc., of Minneapolis, Minnesota are/were its importers. Between June 2005 and September 2008, this product was available at all nationwide drug stores, card stores, gift stores, and specialty stores.

Remedial Measures

About 14,000 units of these Halloween figurines have been recalled from the market. Till date, no incidents or injuries have been reported with respect to the use of these figurines. If you are in possession of this particular model of the figurine then it’s important that you take it away from your children and stop them from using it immediately. Also, you must return it to Coyne’s & Company and you will get full refund or get associated credit.
