Children’s Flip Flops Violate Lead in Paint Standard – Recalled by AlpargatasAlpargatas USA Inc., a firm based in New York, N.Y. has recalled its children’s flips flops. This recall was based on the findings of the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission and these findings were detrimental to the health of the wearer. Therefore, it was thought fit to voluntarily recall the product by the Company. The commission advises consumers to stop using those products that are recalled, unless there are other instructions on the same. In this case the product being ‘Children’s Flip Flops’ What are Children’s Flip Flops? Children’s flip flops are great summer footwear and are popular for their cute and dainty little looks. Essentially, they are flat, backless, more often than not, rubber sandals that are made up of a flat sole. A Y-shaped strap, like a thong holds this sole in loosely. The inherent attraction for kids’ vis-à-vis flip-flops lies in the fact that they are available in a variety of colors. Decorative paint is applied to the sole and strap of the flip flop. Children’s flips flops are generally available in a range of bright colors that makes them even more appealing. The Hazard of These Flip Flops The use of excess amount of lead in various products is detrimental to a person’s health. If it’s a child that is using a product that has an excess of lead content, then the risks are even higher. The sole of these children’s flip flops contains lead in levels that are in excess of the federal standards underlined for the same. Till date, some 210,000 units of children’s flip flops have been recalled by Alpargatas USA Inc. and no incidents or injuries have been reported so far. The Description of the Product The children’s flip flops that are being recalled have been manufactured in Brazil and are marketed under the ‘Havaianas’ brand. Only flip flops with decorative paint are being recalled, and some of the model names for recalled flip flops include Kids Fairy, Kids Candies, Kids Love, Kids Speed, Kids Pets, Kids Small Flowers, Kids Wonder Woman, and Kids Monsters amongst others. Availability of the Product This product was made available to consumers beginning November 2006 and was available through to February 2009. It was available at various nationwide department and specialty stores in the price range of $15 to $24 a pair. The Remedy Offered If you have bought these flip flops that are now being recalled by the company, then you must stop your children from wearing them on an immediate basis. Also, you must return them to the company; Alpargatas, USA Inc. The company will offer you a replacement for the product.
